Book a call

DMG Painting is an owner-run painting and decorating business in Adelaide, on a WordPress site built with the Avada theme. We rebuilt it as 23 fast pages, kept every word of their old blog, and redirected all 42 old addresses so nothing they had earned on Google gets lost.

Understanding the Existing Site

DMG’s old site ran on WordPress with the Avada theme. It had the basics: services, a blog, reviews and a contact page. We captured every word of it first and used it as the brief.

Nothing was thrown away. Three news posts moved across word for word, and ten Google reviews and eleven questions and answers kept their exact wording.

The Challenge

A painter is hired on trust and on the finish. The site had to show real work, answer the questions people ask before they call, and turn up for the suburbs DMG actually paints in.

What it needed:

  • Real jobs on show - 20 photos of DMG’s own jobs in the gallery, and a film strip of them on the home page.
  • A page for every service - Interior, exterior, residential and commercial painting.
  • A page for every suburb - Campbelltown, Glenelg, Grange, Marion, Rosewater, St Clair and Unley.

42 old addresses redirected to their new pages. Anyone following an old link or an old Google result still lands in the right place.

Our Approach

Keep everything, then build around it.

  • Phase 1: Keep what was there
  • Phase 2: Build the pages
  • Phase 3: Structure it for search

Phase 1 : Keep what was there

Every page, post, review and question from the old site was captured before design began. All 42 old addresses point to their new pages with permanent 301 redirects.

Phase 2 : Build the pages

23 pages in all.

  • Services - a hub and four service pages.
  • Suburbs - a hub and seven suburb pages.
  • The rest - home, about, gallery, testimonials, questions, three news posts, contact and privacy.

Phase 3 : Structure it for search

Schema marks the business as a house painter, with Service, FAQPage, Article and breadcrumb markup. No star ratings are marked up, by choice. A sitemap and robots file ship with the site.

The Home Page

Thirteen sections, each a different kind of block: a video hero, a marquee, the services as a list with a preview that follows the cursor, a before-and-after slider you drag, a five-step process, a film strip of real jobs, reviews, the suburbs, questions and a closing call to action. On a desktop the menu opens into panels for services and areas.

The Quote Form

One form, used everywhere: name, phone and email, then suburb, enquiry type, job type and a message.

It fills itself in from the page it sits on. Open it on the Unley page and the suburb already says Unley. Open it on interior painting and the job type is set.
